LOUISIANA - Have you noticed mosquitoes already starting to swarm around your backyard? Luckily, Louisiana has enjoyed a cooler than usual start to Spring and Summer that has helped to delay mosquito season, but temperatures are beginning to heat up.

With temperatures rising and all of the rain we've been getting, experts are warning Louisiana to brace for an intense mosquito season.

Officials are also warning Louisiana of the health concerns that such an intense mosquito season could bring.

Why Mosquitoes Are More Than Just A Nuisance

Just this morning I noticed swarms of mosquitoes around my back deck. I usually don't see mosquitoes like this so early in the morning, so I was worried about what kind of mosquito season we could be in for this Summer.

Most people think of mosquitoes as little more than backyard pests that leave itchy bites behind. However, certain species can carry viruses that pose significant health risks.

West Nile virus remains one of the most common mosquito-borne diseases in the United States. While many infected people never develop symptoms, some can experience fever, headaches, body aches, fatigue, and other flu-like symptoms. In rare cases, severe neurological complications can occur.

Louisiana's Climate Creates Perfect Mosquito Conditions

Louisiana's combination of heat, humidity, and frequent rainfall makes the state a prime environment for mosquito populations to thrive.

Even small amounts of standing water can quickly become breeding grounds. Bird baths, flower pots, clogged gutters, pet bowls, children's toys, and old tires can all collect enough water for mosquitoes to lay eggs. Once temperatures rise, mosquito populations can explode in a matter of days.
