A young couple's house at 112 Oak Crest went up in flames on Sunday night, causing them to lose everything, including one of their cats.

Their neighbors called 911 when they noticed smoke coming from the home a couple of hours after the couple had left, according to a press release from the Lafayette Fire Department. Firefighters say smoke and flames were coming from the front door and windows.

When the neighbors went to the house thinking they were going to help the couple, their dog immediately ran out. Another cat was later found by firefighters. Both animals are doing fine.

Fire investigators say the fire started in the kitchen and its cause is under investigation.
