Jill "The Almost Invisible" Intern and I got into a conversation recently about our favorite Lafayette restaurants to take our out-of-town friends and family. Jill is a UL student originally from Alexandria. My wife, the lovely Ms. Alli, is also from that neck of the woods. We all know that ain't exactly Cajun Country! So, we decided to compile some of our favorite Lafayette restaurants and share a little bit about what we like about each. We hope this helps you next time you have a visitor and you need to feed them something good.

    Prejean's

    3480 N.E. Evangeline Thruway

We'll start with Prejean's. Heck, it's the first great Lafayette restaurant folks coming from Alexandria are going to see! If the huge 12-foot alligator that greets guests when they walk in isn't enough, the great food, atmosphere and Cajun music are sure to delight. A fave is the crawfish enchiladas! Yummy in the tummy. Click on their website and you can even check out a live webcam.

    Blue Dog Café

    1211 West Pinhook Road

We go to Blue Dog Café for the food. We go there for the Sunday brunch and live music. And we go there for the art! Adorning the walls are some of the best George Rodrigue creations. Some of our highlights are the Drew Brees and Blues Brothers paintings. Back to the food. It's all good! Try one of everything. For the Blue Dog savvy readers, mouths are collectively salivating.

    Johnson's Boucaniere

    1111 St. John Street

Johnson's Boucaniere is a quaint, friendly restaurant serving barbecue and everyone's favorite comfort foods.  The inside of the restaurant is small and old-fashioned and the workers are extremely kind.  Around the corner of the restaurant is a shaded, cool deck with seating for customers to enjoy their food.  One of our personal favorites at Johnson's is the stuffed pulled pork grilled cheese sandwich.  The pulled pork sandwich with homemade bbq sauce is juicy and satisfying.  If your sweet tooth is bothering you after your main meal order a piece of Johnson's praline bread pudding.  Johnson's Boucaniere is sure to pleasure anyone's hungry tummy.

    Deano's Pizza

    305 Bertrand Drive

Dean-O's is a great place to bring any out-of-towner for a casual, fun and delicious experience. Dean-O's pizzas are one of a kind and they are sure to make your pizza the exact way you want it. UL pizza, Cajun Extinguisher, Marie Leveaux, or the Guiltless pizza are just a few of their amazing creations. If you are not craving pizza there is much more on the menu to order: pasta, poboys, sandwiches and salads. Be sure to order their crawfish nachos for an appetizer! The best dessert Dean-O's serves is their fried oreos. Fried oreos are decadent and they will melt in your mouth. Be sure to head to Dean-O's and enjoy the fun atmosphere!

    T-Coon's

    1900 West Pinhook Road

T-Coons is the perfect place to eat home cooked classics. You don't have to be at the duck camp or your momma's house to eat smothered rabbit, fried chicken, rice and gravy, or shrimp and okra stew. T-Coon's buffet is always delicious and consistent. Be sure to order a couple of their fresh beignets for dessert! You won't regret dining in at T-Coons, and it won't be the last time.
