If you know who Tennessee Ernie Ford is, you can't hear his name without hearing the melody of the iconic Sixteen Tons. That is "the ol peapickers" signature song and it sounds just as good today as it did when it was recorded on this day in 1955. That's why we've chosen Sixteen Tons as our CCSN Memory for today.

CCSN is Acadiana's Largest Cocktail Party and all the music is chosen by you, so make your request and listen in between 6pm and midnight tonight

Sixteen Tons is one of the original "workin' mans blues" records that made the country genre so popular with America's heartland. The song is about a coal miner and his quest for something better by working harder. However, in the song as in life, the harder you work the more the boss man wants.

Oddly enough this Nashville classic wasn't even recorded in Music City. The tracks for Sixteen Tons were laid down at Capitol Recording Studios on Melrose Avenue in Hollywood. The song was written by legendary Merle Travis.
