Delcambre Police Officer 38-year-old Raleigh Cheramie of Delcambre is accused of altering his pain medication prescriptions he was receiving from his doctor in order to get more pills.

La. State Police spokesman Trooper Stephen Hammons says detectives found seven different times between March and August of 2013 in which Cheramie allegedly did this. Detectives say he also allegedly used his health insurance to pay for the medication. The investigation was started after Delcambre Police Chief James Broussard requested one.

Cheramie has been booked into the Vermilion Parish Jail on 7-Counts of obtaining a controlled dangerous substance (CDS) by Fraud, 7-Counts of altering any prescription for a CDS, and 7-Counts of health care fraud.

Police continue to investigate.
