General Motors Co. has announced a massive recall of close to four million vehicles worldwide to fix an air bag software defect. This air bag defect has been linked to one death.

General Motors says that in some cases the car's computer is going into "Test Mode". This is not allowing the vehicle's air bags to deploy, and is causing the seat belt to malfunction.

The recall involves the 2014-2016 Buick LaCrosse, Chevrolet SS and Spark EV; the 2014-2017 Buick Encore, GMC Sierra and Chevrolet Corvette, Trax, Caprice and Silverado; and the 2015-2017 Chevrolet Tahoe, Suburban and Silverado HD, GMC Yukon, Yukon XL and Sierra HD and Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV.

The malfunction has been directly linked to one death so far.

GM says customers who are affected by the recall will be notified and the problem will be fixed free of charge.
