Black Friday got off to a fatal start on the roadways Friday morning in Jefferson Davis Parish.

La. State Police say alcohol use and not wearing a seatbelt are suspected factors after a 27-year-old Calvin James Legros, Jr. of Jennings, died after crashing his pickup truck, running off Louisiana Highway 102 about 2 miles south of Jennings. Legros was pronounced dead at the scene after it was determined his truck crashed into a concrete culvert, went airborne, overturned and landed in a canal on its roof.

La. State Police continue to investigate as they await the toxicology report.

Troop D has investigated 17 fatal crashes resulting in 17 fatalities this year, according to LSP spokesman Sgt. James Anderson.
