Here in the Deep South we don't get to use the phrase Nor'easter that often. That phrase is usually used in New England where cold winter winds blow sheets of rain in off the Atlantic Ocean so hard that official NFL footballs lose air pressure when the home team is on offense. With the exception of footballs deflating most of Acadiana will get to enjoy a New England kind of day today.

A vigorous low pressure system is expected to move across the area during the day to day and this system will interact with plenty of warm moist Gulf Coast air to bring the threat of heavy rains to the area.  Rainfall amounts of 1"-3" will be common over most locations in the 97.3 The Dawg listening area.

January like temperatures will return with the clouds and rain and they will be reenforced by a strong northeasterly wind off the backside of that low  pressure system. Gusts of 15-25 mph will not be uncommon during the day to day and some of those gusts could be blowing sheets of rain across roadways making visibility a challenge to motorist.

The possibility of heavy thunderstorms will exist during the late afternoon hours but right now forecasters do not anticipate this system to generate any severe weather events for Acadiana.  The rains will start to end from the west late tonight and Friday will be windy and colder.
