The University of Louisiana at Lafayette Athletics Department made a move on the side of caution yesterday. They moved the kickoff of Saturday's home game with Appalachin State ahead by 3 hours.

This should give fans and players a better opportunity to enjoy the game without putting anyone in  harms way because it looks as if  some rough weather might be moving into Acadiana late in the day on  Saturday.

A strong low pressure system is expected to move into Southeast Texas during the day Saturday. That will mean an increase in winds from the south and those southerly breezes will bring plenty of moisture in from the Gulf of Mexico.

The upper level dynamics with this weather system also indicate a good possibility of strong thunderstorms for the area too. In addition to the possibility of tornadoes, there could be large hail and damaging winds.

Dave Baker in the KATC weather center is thinking that the early part of Saturday will be quite breezy and mild but by late Saturday afternoon the rains will begin to move in and the potential for severe weather will increase. The Storm Prediction Center shows that probability of severe weather in the region will be slight in Acadiana and more likely the closer you travel to Houston Texas.

The potential for 1-2 inches of rain is likely  as this system moves through the area. In fact, rain chances are very high from late Saturday all the way through Sunday. By Monday there will be the return of sunshine for the area with  maybe a left over shower still lingering in the area for your morning drive to start the holiday week.
