The calendar may say it's fall but chances are your thermometer or the interior of your car will disagree. It's not unusual for Acadiana to have a few days of cooler weather during late September and early October only to go back to the stifling heat of late August within the same week. That appears to be the set up for Acadiana during the next few days.

Today's forecast is calling for a mix of clouds and sun, in fact maybe more clouds than sun. There is a decent chance of showers and a quick look at the National Weather Service radar will show that there is an abundance of rain just offshore. That rain is associated with the cold front that brought the cooler drier air to the area last week.

This system is forecast to drift back to the north and a low pressure system might form along the frontal boundary. This will be the catalyst for more showers today but most of that activity should be from the Atchafalaya Basin eastward.

The frontal system will wash out the area by early Monday but it will open the gates to the Gulf. The warm southerly breezes will bring abundant moisture and warm temperatures. In fact high temperatures for mid week could be near 90. Significant rain chances won't return to the area until later in the week. There is a definite cool down on the horizon for next weekend. By next Sunday afternoon the high might have trouble reaching 80 degrees.
