Louisiana’s Labor Day Forecast is a Good News/Bad News Scenario

This Monday all across Louisiana people will celebrate working by not working. It's the irony that is the Labor Day Weekend. I think the Monday break comes at just the right time for most families in Louisiana. Most of us have spent the past couple of weeks getting kids ready for school and now it's time to spend one last weekend remembering and recalling all the fun that was summer vacation.

For a lot of families, this weekend will mean one more trip to the beach for sun and sand. Or, perhaps now that September has arrived you and your family are more in football mode. The season for NCAA football teams begins in earnest this weekend. And, whether you are crowded around a tailgate at the stadium or huddled under an umbrella at the beach you're going to need to know what to expect from Mother Nature.

Louisiana's Labor Day Forecast is a Mixed Bag of Sun and Storms

Even on a holiday weekend, I don't think you could find anyone in Louisiana who would complain too loud and too long if we got some rain. I think most of us would actually strip down to our shorts and go dance out in it. That's how dry it has been. But it does look as if this weekend will usher in a return to more normal summer weather conditions.

What we mean by normal summer weather conditions is this, hot and humid with a chance of showers or thunderstorms in the afternoon. Here lately all we've had is sunshine and heat. But that appears to be changing as we move into Saturday.

The National Weather Service has put given most of southern Louisiana, including the Lafayette and Lake Charles area a 60% of showers or storms forming Saturday afternoon. The threat of showers will diminish when the sun goes down. So, that's pretty typical but the rain threat is a little higher than "normal".

Sunday will be another day when rain chances are at least 60% during the afternoon hours. Then for Monday, Labor Day, rain chances go even higher to 80%. So, for the three-day holiday weekend, Louisiana will experience some of its best opportunities to receive rain all summer.

And it does appear as if afternoon high temperatures will stay out of the triple-digits for at least the next seven days. We won't kid you, the temperature will be in the upper 90s for most days that aren't affected by a shower so it's still going to be pretty darn hot. But, at least, the chances of it raining are a lot better.
