Nashville legend Marshall Grant, the last surviving member of Johnny Cash‘s original band, passed away on Sunday after suffering an aneurysm. He was 83 years old.
Grant’s bass playing helped anchor the Cash combo known as the ‘Tennessee Two,’ and was a signature part of his early sound. Just as importantly, Grant, in the picture above on the right, served as the band’s road manager, working with Cash from 1954-1980.
August 4, 2011 The Texaco Country Showdown is set for Friday, August 5th at Cowboy's Night Club in Lafayette. Seven contestants will be competing on stage for the right to move on to the state competition with the ultimate goal of the national title, $100,000 and a national tv appearance. Dustin Sonnier & Six Pack will be keeping the music going as they're serving as the competition's backing band. Doors open at 7pm and competition starts at 8pm.
