Even the casual high school football fan in Acadiana knew Vermilion Catholic and Acadiana High School had good programs. Saturday in the Mercedes Benz Superdome the rest of the state found out just how good both of these teams really are. As both Acadiana area teams not only won their respective state titles but they rolled up big numbers and literally crushed their opponents.

The Vermilion Catholic Screaming Eagles were first up on the day playing St. Fredrick of Monroe in the noon game. The Eagles wasted no time in getting on the board early and often. Mike Campbell a Senior running back for V.C. rushed for three touchdowns and the Eagles defense did the rest. The final score was Vermilion Catholic 63, St Fredrick 18. This was the first state title for Vermilion Catholic since the Eagles won the state 1A crown in 2003.

For the Acadiana Wreckin' Rams the mantra was 'bring the wood'. That is exactly what the Wreckin' Rams did not only to the Parkway Panthers but the to the record books. The Rams broke the state record for points scored and for rushing yards. Acadiana rolled up 670 yards of offense on the ground and shattered the scoreboard with a mind blowing 77 points. The final score was Acadiana 77, Parkway 41.
