Several Schools in Acadiana Closed Thu, Jan. 18 Due to Water Issues

Schools across the Acadiana area have been closed all week long due to the MLK Jr. holiday and then the inclement weather. While most are back in session, there are still a few that will be closed again today.

Water issues in various capacities are the culprit for multiple schools in the area having to close again on Thursday, January 18.

Lafayette Christian Academy is closed today due to low water pressure.

Lacassine High School is also closed today due to low water pressure. The Jeff Davis Superintendent released the following statement:

Due to extremely low water pressure at Lacassine High School, we will close LHS on Thursday, January 18th, 2024. They currently don't have enough pressure to maintain a sanitary campus. The water district is working diligently to restore pressure by Friday morning so all LHS facilities have adequate water pressure to operate all restroom and cafeteria systems.

In St. Martin Parish, two schools will remain closed on January 18.

St. Martinville Jr. High and Breaux Bridge High School are closed due to low water pressure issues.

In Evangeline Parish, Chataignier Elementary School and Evangeline Central School are closed today due to water-related issues.

Both schools are anticipated to reopen on Friday.

Several schools in St. Landry Parish will be closed today due to low water pressure issues. Those schools include:

• Opelousas High/Biomed
• Opelousas Jr. High
• Opelousas Middle
• Cresswell Middle
• Northeast Elementary
• Grolee Elementary
• Park Vista Elementary
• MACA
• SLATS
• CAPS (Opelousas Alternative School)

Two Evangeline Parish schools closed at 8:30 am today due to no water pressure. Those schools are Basile High School and W.W. Stewart Elementary School.

Around 11:00 am, the Lafayette Parish School System announced that Evangeline Elementary and Carencro High would be closing early due to low water pressure.
