The Little League World Series is taking place right now in Williamsport, Pennsylvania. It'll wrap up this Sunday when the international bracket winner will take on the United States champs to crown the Little League World Series champions.

But last night, a kid's game was played by grown-ups. Major League Baseball held its 2023 edition of its Little League Classic in Williamsport.

The game, played at Historic (and small by MLB standards) Bowman Field, featured the Philadelphia Phillies and the Washington Nationals.

The Nationals won the game by a final score of 4-3, but the bat used by Phillies second baseman Bryson Stott stole the show.

It looked a little like this:

How cool is that? A No. 2 pencil!

If you're wondering why you don't see these kinds of fun bats all the time, the answer is pretty straightforward.

Major League Baseball makes an exception for this game. Phillies star slugger Bryce Harper even used a unique bat during the game.

It featured his BFF's face, the Phanatic, on the bat. (The Phanatic is the team's wild and crazy mascot.)

ESPN announcer David Cone confused the creature with SpongeBob Squarepants on the broadcast.

Oh, to be fair, there were several other players that had a little fun and used custom, fun bats during the game.

Bottom line, it's good to see baseball, a game steeped in tradition, have a little fun in front of the kids last night. Hopefully, this opens up new possibilities for the League to continue finding ways to grow the game while embracing new ideas.
