True heroes are the people who live to make a difference. The people who strive to protect the community should always be remembered. The Louisiana State Police will honor the men and women of law enforcement who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

The State Police Memorial Ceremony will be held Wednesday, May 13, 2014 at 7:00 pm at the memorial in front of the Louisiana State Police Headquarters. This year's memorial marks the first time that the State Police has conducted the ceremony in the evening, and a candlelight vigil will be held.

On average, 150 police officers from various agencies are killed in the line of duty each year, all while protecting the good citizens. Throughout the years, 26 fallen officers have been remembered in the memorial; however, more officer's names will be added to the list of officers killed in the line of duty.

We have no greater responsibility than to honor those who've made the ultimate sacrifice for the citizens of Louisiana," said Colonel Mike Edmonson, State Police Superintendent.

Family members of the fallen Troopers will be acknowledged during this special ceremony.  The public and media are invited and encouraged to attend. It is our turn to applaud these brave men and women, and honor all of their hard work. It is with their service that we are able to live in a safe community.
