It's the time of year when love is in the air and wedding bells are ringing. Bashful brides are being escorted down church aisles while nervous and adoring grooms await their arrival at the alter. It's the wedding season. That means happy couples all across Louisiana are taking the plunge and making that first step in a journey that will find them together forever. We hope.

There are a lot of things that go into making a marriage work. I have found in my 28 plus years of being married to the same woman that trust, honesty, a sense of humor, and the desire to see your partner achieve their dreams go a long way to creating a stable relationship. Stable is nice but we want more, we want happy in there too.

A study done at Yale University suggests that the key to a happy marriage lies in the something that both partners can do. However, the positive effects of this action only seem to in force when it's the man that does it. What is that action? It is exercise.

When most of us think about exercise we tend take a rather vain approach. We do it so we can look and feel our best. Most of us spend more time on our bodies when we are looking for a mate, not when we have secured one through marriage. However, there is a more pronounced psychological effect on the couple when its the man who is working out.

We are suggesting that women shouldn't work out. What the study showed was that when men workout they feel better and more confident. These feelings translate to their partner more so than when women are involved in an exercise program. The bottom line is this, when a man feels good about himself that positive effect will help his wife and the entire relationship move to a better place.
