Federal Laws That Protect Mail Carriers

Mail carriers are protected federal employees and mail delivery is considered a critical service, so interfering with them is treated seriously, and dealt with fast.

Even yelling threats, releasing a dog, or blocking access to a mailbox can land someone in real legal trouble.

It is a federal crime to threaten, assault, intimidate, or interfere with a mail carrier while they're doing their job, carrying 8 years in federal prison for assault, and up to 20 years in federal prison if a weapon is used or serious injury occurs.
