Over the past week, there have been countless numbers of pots filled with hot oil and seasoned turkeys all over Louisiana. The "Fried Turkey" can be traced back to its roots in the bayous of South Louisiana.

The Cajuns who live in that part of the state had become quite proficient at boiling crawfish using large pots and butane burners. Then someone came up with the idea to put some oil in the pot and drop in a turkey.

And even though we are given "credit" for creating the fried turkey here in Cajun country, we still approach each bird and each pot of hot oil with respect and caution. Anyone who has ever fried a turkey knows there are a lot of things that can go wrong.

Unfortunately, we are reporting a story of one of those fried turkey attempts that didn't go right at all. In fact, the decision to fry a turkey on Thanksgiving has cost one family their home, fortunately, everything that was lost appears to be replaceable.

Here are some of the pictures from Thanksgiving Day.

First things first, no this wasn't a Louisiana turkey fry gone bad. This incident happened in Weston Connecticut and there were no injuries to residents of the home nor to firefighters who worked for nearly 16 hours to battle the blaze.

It is believed the fire started in the home's garage as a result of frying a turkey. That was the preliminary report issued by fire investigators. The home was deemed a total loss of more than $3.8 million.

The story serves as an expensive reminder that many holiday traditions come with unique opportunities for things to go wrong. Frying turkeys can cause fires, misused fireworks can injure limbs, drinking and driving can destroy lives, you get the idea.
