5 Louisiana Foods The Internet Says Are Overrated
Unless you are from around here you better not be talking bad about here. I have to admit I don't agree with a lot of the choices that were made by users of the website Reddit. However, I believe everyone has the right to be totally wrong. Even though if you threatened me with a Nutria Rat milkshake I'd probably admit I think at least a few of these don't really live up to the hype
We can't even agree among ourselves what a "real king cake" is supposed to be. If the cake in question doesn't match our expectations then it sucks. However, to the taste buds of an outsider, many king cakes would be considered a cinnamon roll on steroids.
This is truly an acquired taste. It's a very strong bold flavored drink that will put hair on the chest of a prom queen. A girl prom queen, not a French Quarter prom queen. I like chicory coffee but I am a coffee junkie. I can see why many people would have trouble enjoying this storied flavor of our state.
Oh boy, now we are getting pretty close to fighting words with this choice. Muffalettas are another one of those "you have to get the right one" kind of foods. From the kitchen of a Muffaletta master, these are some incredible sandwiches. If you go low budget or franchise for your Muff' then you will not understand why we in Louisiana will beat you with the bread if you don't shut up about it.
The pork I agree. I've tried it. I am not a fan. I don't have any problem suggesting that people stay away from it. Pickled eggs are different. When done well they are an incredible burst of unique spicy, vinegar infused, goodness that makes a cold beer taste even better. The flatulence they produce should be noted and perhaps counted as a strike against them.
I am very close to violence since this one is included. Who doesn't like fried dough covered with powdered sugar? Nobody, that's who. Why beignets make the "overrated" list is because fried dough with powdered sugar is available just about anywhere. I think what makes our beignets not overrated is you get to enjoy them in Louisiana.
