Acadiana Red Cross Assisting Officials At Grand 16
In the wake of last night's shooting at the Grand 16, the Acadiana Chapter of the American Red Cross is on the scene assisting in both mental and physical capacities.
Acadiana Red Cross spokeswoman Kay Wilkins said a team of volunteers from Lafayette and Baton Rouge has been on the scene since late Thursday night providing food, drinks and other support for the first responders on the scene.
"Our teams will remain on site until no longer needed," Wilkins said via e-mail. "We will continue to provide support as requested by the Lafayette Parish officials."
Wilkins told colleagues she is working within the regional Red Cross community to dispatch emotional care and support teams for families affected by the shooting.
The Red Cross team mobilized an emergency response vehicle used to stage a mobile command post near the theater. The mass care team secured food and drink donations from local businesses such as Cypress Bayou Casino, Schilling Distributing and other vendors.
