‘America’s Cajun Navy’ Founder Arrested On Felony Theft Charge

John Billiot Jr., the founder of "America's Cajun Navy," has been arrested for allegedly stealing money that was intended to help children and foster parents with their care as well as for Christmas presents for the children.

Lafayette Parish Sheriff's Office spokesman Lt. John Mowell says their Criminal Investigation Division began a theft investigation involving Billiot on September 30th.

The victim told authorities that Billiot started a GoFundMe account to aid in the care of specific foster children and their foster parents. But Lt. Mowell says only a portion of the funds derived from this GoFundMe account were used for the benefit of the foster children while the majority of the funds allegedly were retained by Billiot.

Billiot has been arrested for Theft (Felony) by fraud and misappropriation of funds.

"America's Cajun Navy" is one of many groups calling themselves the "Cajun Navy."
