Apple Apologizes for Battery Slowdown, Offering Reduction in Price for Replacement Batteries
Apple posted a letter to its customers on Thursday (Dec. 28) apologizing for slowing down older iPhones.
The apology comes after days of social media backlash and several lawsuits from consumers.
The apology read in part:
We’ve been hearing feedback from our customers about the way we handle performance for iPhones with older batteries and how we have communicated that process. We know that some of you feel Apple has let you down. We apologize. There’s been a lot of misunderstanding about this issue, so we would like to clarify and let you know about some changes we’re making.
Those changes include a reduction in the price of replacement batteries from $79 to $29. The discount applies to anyone with an iPhone 6 or later whose battery needs to be replaced. The price reduction will begin in late January.
To me, it's still interesting if you read the entire apology from Apple. There is a whole section about how batteries age and they're basically saying they didn't do anything to reduce performance, it's just the natural wear of the battery.
At any rate, Apple has listened to its customers and are trying to make things better, and that's commendable.
