Not all Apple devices are affected by this particular threat, but it is always a good idea to keep all of your devices updated and running on the latest software and firmware updates. The reason is that, as we have already illustrated, the updates always include the latest security updates, which you'll need to stay ahead of the bad guys.
Which Apple Devices Are Most at Risk for a Cyberattack?
Apple says the following devices need to be updated immediately:
*iPhone 11 and later
*iPad Pro 12.9-inch 3rd generation and later
*iPad Pro 11-inch 1st generation and later
*iPad Air 3rd generation and later
*iPad 8th generation and later
*iPad mini 5th generation and later
How Do I Update My iPhone or iPad Operating System?
That list of affected devices was published in a story by Al.com. They also included this information via Forbes.com, which many Apple users will find helpful. Here is the process for updating your device, according to the Apple website.
Go to Settings > General > Software Update. If your iPhone is not running either iOS 26.2 or iOS 18.7.3, go to Settings > General > Shut Down and power the device off. Or you can press and hold either volume button and the side button until the power-off slider appears. If that doesn't work, you can force a restart.
Many Apple customers have reported issues downloading and installing the new iOS update. The reason appears to be a lack of storage on some devices, especially older devices. If you're one of those individuals, you might have to offload some unused apps or delete large files. You can also clear your cache, and you never know what magic will appear when you simply restart your phone.
But the bottom line is this: for your personal and cyber safety, you need to keep your devices updated.
