If you're in Louisiana and you're a user of Facebook you might have some money coming to you as part of a legal settlement made with the social media giant. If you were a Facebook user in 2018 or the years previous you could be eligible for monetary compensation as part of a class action lawsuit that was brought against Meta, Facebook's parent company.

A federal judge has recently given approval to a settlement arrangement between Meta and lawyers representing multiple plaintiffs in multiple class action lawsuits against the company. The class action suits stemming from the Cambridge Analytica scandal which was brought to light back in 2018. Although Meta denies allegations it shared user data, aka your personal information, with third parties without permission the company has agreed to the massive settlement in the case.

In order to receive compensation or be considered for the compensation you will have to apply. You will have to have been a Facebook user on the social media platform between May 24, 2007, and December 22, 2022. Even if you have multiple Facebook accounts you may only file one claim.

The deadline for submitting a claim is August 25th, 2023 at 11:59 pm Pacific Time. Exactly how much each plaintiff will receive will be determined by the number of people who apply and are deemed eligible for compensation. Speculation is that the attorneys, in this case, will receive about 25% of the settlement money, and the remainder will go to plaintiffs.
