Louisiana, Want to Turn 50 Cents Into $50? Get a Roll of 2025 Pennies
Lafayette, La (KMDL) - It looks like 2025 will be the end of the penny.
In February of this year, President Trump ordered the U.S. Mint to stop any further production of pennies.
Currently, there are an estimated 114 billion pennies in circulation in the United States, so even though the U.S. Mint is stopping production, it's going to take generations before they disappear completely.
This begs the question: Are pennies now worth collecting because they'll rise in value?
Overall no, but there's something pretty interesting happening with 2025 pennies right now.
Why Aren't Pennies Being Made Anymore?
Simply put, it costs more to make a penny than the penny is worth.
It costs almost 4 cents to produce a one-cent penny.
Over the past 10 years, the cost of producing a penny has risen from 1.3 cents to 3.9 cents according to the U.S. treasury.
Because of this, President Trump signed an Executive order to stop production, and it makes sense, no pun intended.

People are selling the 2025 pennies by the roll, and rolls of 2025 pennies are selling for anywhere between $10 and $50.
Not bad for a 50-cent roll of pennies!

You’ll probably want to go to multiple locations, and it would be ideal to have an account with the bank already (but it’s not necessary)."
