Axis Deer Spotted Running Wild Around Parks, Louisiana

There's an axis deer on the lam in St. Martin Parish. Specifically, it's been spotted in multiple locations around Parks.

But wait, axis deer aren't indigenous to this part of the world, right? Yes, that would be correct.

Axis deer, also known as the spotted deer or chital deer, are actually originally from India.

But you know how that stuff works, some years ago they brought them to the United States. First, in the 1860s they were introduced to a part of Hawaii and then in 1932 were introduced to Texas.

In 1988, self-sustaining herds were present in 27 counties in Central and South Texas.

Back to the Parks escapee. He's got to be just that, right?

We've read comments on a few Facebook posts and it seems that folks in the area have a good idea where this particular axis deer comes from. It appears to be owned by someone who simply raises them.

Hopefully, the owner can get their deer back before someone shoots it. Again, reading the comments on Facebook, some of you may actually shoot it.

Please don't shoot that deer. (We will assume you guys are joking.)
