Bloody Passenger Subdued as Delta Jet Makes Louisiana Landing

Do y'all remember when the skies used to be "friendly"? I know it's been a while since that was the case. Heck, the Jefferson Parish Sheriff's Department has made three arrests at the New Orleans Airport in the past week although none of the earlier incidents involved threatening a flight or an altercation with a flight crew.

What we know is this. Delta Airlines flight 2432 was en route from Atlanta, Georgia to New Orleans Louisiana yesterday. During the course of that flight a passenger, identified as Nelson Montgomery, is alleged to have placed a Delta flight attendant in a chokehold. It is also alleged that Montgomery held a piece of broken glass up to the flight attendant's neck threatening to injure her if anyone approached him.

A report from Fox 8 out of New Orleans relayed witness accounts of the events as they unfolded. Montgomery was reported to be bleeding profusely from the neck when he allegedly assaulted the flight attendant. It was also reported by witnesses that it took some eight people to subdue Montgomery until deputies from Jefferson Parish could board the plan and place the man in custody.

Delta Airlines issued this statement regarding the incident in New Orleans:

Delta flight 2432 operating from Atlanta to New Orleans was met by law enforcement personnel upon landing following a reported customer issue onboard. Delta has zero tolerance for unruly behavior on our aircraft and in our airports. Nothing is more important than the safety and security of our people and our customers.

No passengers were reported to be injured at least physically during this incident. The flight attendant suffered minor injuries. She was treated for two cuts at the scene. The alleged attacker was taken to a New Orleans area hospital for treatment. He will be arrested and charged with aggravated battery, disturbing the peace, and simple battery.

As of now, there has not been a motive uncovered that might have been the catalyst for the attack. The incident remains under investigation. Meanwhile, Armstrong International Airport in New Orleans has resumed normal operations.
