Cajuns Baseball Avoids Sweep In Austin

The Louisiana Ragin' Cajuns baseball team was looking to avoid going 0-3 on the season and in order to do that they would need, pitching, defense, and timely hitting. They were able to do just that as they picked up a 2-1 win over the #20 Texas Longhorns.

It was a pitcher's duel early on in the game between the 2 starting pitchers as Hogan Harris and Blair Henley were pitching great. Harris unfortunately had to come out of the game in the 3rd inning with 2 outs due to an injury. The Cajuns freshman pitcher Brock Batty came in for the Cajuns and continued the stellar pitching they had going.

It remained scoreless until the 5th inning when freshman Hayden Cantrelle picked up his first collegiate hit and it happened to be an RBI single. The Longhorns would tie it right back up in their half of the 5th inning on a sac fly. The Cajuns would retake the lead in the top of the 7th thanks to an RBI double from Gavin Bourgeois and wouldn't surrender the lead again.

Batty continued his great pitching performance into the 9th when Logan Stoelke replaced him with 2 outs in the game and then a nice defensive play by the Cajuns defense was able to secure the win.

A few of takeaways from the game were that the defense continues to be great, pitching kept the Cajuns in the game and the timely hitting worked out in the Cajuns favor. Both Hayden Cantrelle and O'Neal Lochridge picked up their first collegiate hits as Cantrelle had an RBI and Lochridge got a double.

The Cajuns will return home from Texas before heading over to Hammond on Wednesday to play Southeastern and then they will play their home opener Friday night as they play Wright State in a weekend series.
