The Louisiana Ragin' Cajun football team is going bowling for the 6th time in the last 7 years!

I made the prediction that Louisiana would make it to a bowl game this year back in early-October, after the Cajuns defeated the Idaho Vandals, 21-16, to improve to 2-3 on the season.

Check out the full article, here.

Since Louisiana is now 5-5, only one win away from bowl eligibility, with two games remaining, I figured that now would be a pretty good time to revisit that prediction.

I got a lot of, shall we say, less than favorable feedback from that prediction.

Now, don't get me wrong; most people were nice. As a matter of fact, they seemed very concerned about my well-being, giving me recommendations for several psychiatrists and therapists, and such.

Seriously, say what you want about the Cajuns over the last couple of seasons. They've been far from perfect. but you can't question their heart and desire.

Last season, after a 23-13 homecoming loss to Idaho, they were 3-5, and most had counted them out.

The Cajuns won thee of their last four, defeating Georgia Southern, Arkansas St., and ULM, to get to 6 wins.

This season, after a 56-50 double-overtime defeat to ULM, UL was 1-3, and again, many counted them out.

They went on to win three of their next four, before a loss to Ole Miss dropped them to 4-5.

The Cajuns rebounded last Saturday however, with a nice 47-34 win over New Mexico St.

Look, to show you I admit when I'm wrong too; even though I picked Arkansas St. to defeat the Cajuns in that article back in October, I did get caught up in the excitement and picked UL to beat ASU the week of their game.

That was not a good pick, as Arkansas St. won, 47-3.

Still, that's kind of my point; the Cajuns bounced back from that bad loss, winning two of their last three.

This is a resilient bunch.

Now, as optimistic I have been all year, and still am, I will warn you; this Saturday's game against Georgia Southern should not be taken lightly, despite their 1-9 record.

They're playing hard since the dismissal of former head coach Tyson Summers, and won their first game of the year last week, defeating South Alabama, 52-0.

Even before that, they played Georgia St., a team tied for first place in the league, to a 21-16 game, and played well against Appalachian St., trailing 13-6 through three quarters, before ultimately losing, 27-6.

The other concern is that Louisiana has had issues with running quarterbacks this season, and they will face one this Saturday, in Shai Werts, who has passed for 797 yards this season, while rushing for another 600.

Werts was named the Sun Belt Conference Player of the Week for last week's performance against South Alabama, in which he passed for 107 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for another 113 yards and another score.

Do I think the Cajuns will win? Yes. But it's far from a guarantee.

It would just be awful to get to this point, one win away from bowl eligibility, and lose your home finale to a 1-9 team.

If the Eagles do come in and pull the upset, the Cajuns could win their season finale, on the road on December 2, against Appalachian St.

All due respect to the Mountaineers, as they are 5-1 in league play, and tied atop the conference standings, but they're not unbeatable.

Appalachian St. has won three of their five league games by 8 points or less, and have suffered defeats to ULM and UMass, two teams with losing records.

Do I favor Appalachian St. in that game? Yes. But again; don't make the mistake of counting out the Cajuns.

Hey! Why not just win both and finish with a winning record, at 7-5?!?!?

I said 6-6 before the year began, and when I wrote my prediction when they were 2-3.

If they do finish 7-5, I'd be more than happy to say I was wrong.
