Carencro Family Discovers Rare ‘Art Nouveau’ Desk Possibly Worth $250,000!

Eloise Wilkinson of Carencro called an appraiser to come look at some family furniture to get an idea of what some of it could be worth. As New Orleans appraiser David J. Goldberg took a look at the items he was hired to appraise, he noticed something in another bedroom that he couldn't believe. What he saw was an Art Nouveau desk valued at around $250,000! The crazy thing is he wasn't there to appraise that piece!

"When I went into the bedroom and saw this desk, I started shaking," Goldberg said. "The French National Museum in the middle of Paris has one. Majorelle only made about 10 of these. Christie's sold one for $212,000 and the chair for over $100,000. So I had seen it before and when I saw it, I couldn't believe it."

"Goldberg said it is a lost Louis Majorelle "Orchid" desk, purchased in France around 1903 or 1904, and brought back to Louisiana, where it has been ever since."

Eloise Wilkinson said she was surprised when she learned of the value and rarity of the desk. She said her parents always her and her brother to "Always take care of it and never destroy it."
