Multiple Schools On Lockdown, High Alert After Threats
From KPEL -
School system officials said Wednesday morning that Carencro High School and W.D. Smith Career Center have been placed on lockdown after they received threats that a shooting would occur on campus today.
"A lady called the school and said that she had received information that there was going to be a shooting at Carencro High today," school system superintendent Dr. Pat Cooper said.
Cooper said additional law enforcement has been called in, and the school's crisis plan has been implemented. Instruction is continuing at the school, Cooper said, but under a tightly controlled environment.
Cooper said all threats to any school are taken seriously.
Carencro Assistant Police Chief Dondi Hardin said officers are searching the campus, including classrooms, lockers, and school bags.
A teacher on the campus said she has been in her classroom for more than an hour, and there was a significant police presence.
Other school system officials said the situation is being investigated.
The Advertiser reported Acadian Middle School was also on high alert, though it was not clear whether that had anything to do with the lockdown at Carencro High.
School system spokesperson Angela Morrison said the W.D. Smith Career Center has also been placed on lockdown. Paul Breaux Middle School has been placed on lockdown due to its close proximity to W.D. Smith, she said.
The threats are evidently a reference to the movie "The Purge," school system officials said.
