‘Christmassy’ Town Survey is Total Slap in the Face to Louisiana

Christmas in Louisiana is not what most people picture when they think of late December. We don't usually have snow. The leaves and the grass are brown. The concrete always seems to be wet. And, fur-lined coats are seldom seen while shopping. Our Christmas is more like this.

No, we aren't the "traditional" look you'd expect to see when someone mentions Christmas. But that doesn't mean we aren't "Christmassy", does it?

The folks at Mixbook, an online photo editing site, don't think any town in Louisiana is worthy of being on their list of the Top 75 Favorite Christmassy Towns in America. The Mixbook site surveyed some 3,000 families and they created a list of 75 locations that people say they'd love to visit during the holiday season. And no, not one Louisiana town made the list.

Now, to be fair, I can't fault the Mixbook survey for some of the towns they did include. Namely, Pigeon Forge Tennessee, which was chosen as the number one Christmassy destination in America. Others in the Top 5 on the Mixbook list were Durango Colorado, Lake Placid New York, Stowe Vermont, and Alexandria Virginia.

Hmm, all of those places get snow in the winter, I wonder if that had anything to do with why Louisiana got left out. Now, some southern cities did make the survey. Foley Alabama was number 13, Andalusia Alabama was number 25, Theodore Alabama was number 28, and even Oxford Mississippi made the list. They were in at number 33. The survey must have been done before the "Waffle House Incident" in Oxford.

But do you mean to tell me that those communities can hold a candle to Natchitoches, Louisiana? I am guessing the Mixbook folks have never seen Steel Magnolias. Heck, our own Acadian Village in Lafayette is pretty darn Christmassy too.

I am sure the folks at Mixbook didn't have any malice toward Louisiana when they commissioned the survey and they are simply reporting what their users reported back to them. But next year I do hope that Natchitoches, Acadian Village, Lake Charles, and even Baton Rouge will be considered. Those places can look pretty darn Christmassy if you ask me.
