Clear Eyes Recall Covers 40,000 Bottles Sold At Major Retailers

(KMDL-FM) The Food and Drug Administration has reiterated the urgency of a product recall that was initially instituted on August 14th. That recall was for over 40,000 bottles of eye drops that had been sold at Walmart, Kroger, Target, Dollar General, Family Dollar, and other national retailers.

Popular Eye Drops Recalled Over Sterility Concerns

The recall specifically affects bottles of Clear Eyes Maximum Itchy Eye Relief. The reason for the recall has been listed as "lack of assurance of sterility". The recall notice from the FDA specifically covers Lot 2552A and includes 15 mL bottles of the drops.

At its inception, the recall by the FDA was listed as a Class II recall. The FDA has three levels of recall; a Class II means use of or exposure to a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, or where the probability of serious adverse health consequences is remote.

How Do I Know If the Eye Drops I Purchased Are Part of the Recall?

The bottles included in the recall have an expiration date of September 30, 2027, and, as we mentioned, they were sold at multiple nationwide retailers. If you find yourself in possession of some of the recalled products, you are advised to not use that product.

To obtain a product replacement or refund, simply bring the unused portion of the recalled product back to the point of purchase. From there, you will be given the option of choosing a replacement product, if one is available, or you may have the store credit your account for the amount you paid.

A quick check of prices from around the region suggests the average refund price will be anywhere from $3.50 to $4.29 depending on which retailer you purchased the product from. All consumers who purchase eye drops are asked to check their medicine cabinets, purses, and pocketbooks to make sure the recalled drops will not be used.

UTZ Recalls Several Products for Risk of Salmonella

Utz issued a voluntary recall in the United States May 5, of certain limited varieties of Zapp’s® and Dirty® potato chips. This voluntary recall follows notification to Utz that a seasoning containing dry milk powder, sourced from California Dairies, Inc. and supplied by a third-party supplier, may contain the presence of Salmonella.
