‘Deadly Risk’- Pancake Mix Recall Affecting Louisiana Shoppers
Another day and another recall that Louisiana consumers need to be aware of. It seems as if almost everything has been recalled here lately. From frozen fish to mac and cheese to granola bars, and fruit snacks Louisiana shoppers have had to stay on their toes to make sure they aren't eating something that would require a toe tag, if you know what I mean.
The issue of food safety is an important one. The Food and Drug Administration is constantly on the lookout for issues that could and do arise in our food chain. In many cases, the recalls they issue are more of a precaution, just a "be careful" approach if you will.
Sometimes the recalls are a lot more serious and ingesting or using a recalled product could not only lead to serious injury but in some cases death. When death becomes part of the discussion for a recall that's when the FDA issues its highest level warning, a Class 1 Recall.
Sometimes a recall starts at one classification and as time passes and investigators uncover more evidence the recall is reclassified. This is one of those cases and it involves a popular comfort food for many consumers in Louisiana.
The FDA has reclassified the recall of pancake and waffle mix from Pearl Milling Company from a voluntary recall earlier this year to now, a Class 1. The reason is a potential allergen risk that could be deadly for some consumers.
The 2-pound box of Pearl Milling Company Original Pancake & Waffle Mix has been reclassified and now includes what the FDA calls "a deadly risk". According to the FDA, the product may contain undeclared milk. So, those with allergies or sensitivities to milk could experience medical issues if the product is consumed by them.
If you have any of the recalled products in your home you are asked to return that product to the point of purchase. You should have no trouble getting a refund or a replacement item. Otherwise, if that's not possible, you are advised to discard the product.
