Downtown Lafayette’s ‘Merry & Bright Downtown Christmas’ has added The Christmas Tree Extravaganza to get the community involved in the holiday cheer. It’s a Christmas tree decorating contest. I mean, who doesn’t love to decorate for Christmas? And who doesn’t love a friendly competition? Parc International will be full of Christmas trees just waiting to be decorated. Everyone is encouraged to vote for their favorite tree online and a winner will be announced on December 21st.

The three-week extravaganza is a great way for families, businesses, and organizations around Acadiana to come together. If you would like to participate there is a $100 fee which covers the cost of the tree and contributes toward keeping this new Christmas tradition around for future years. For all the details on the competition and to register, click here.

This is a great idea for a team-building event for your business. It’s also a great idea for non-profits, religious organizations, service clubs, neighborhoods, schools, and families. The D.R.E.A.M.S. Foundation is participating and they're asking for help making ornaments for their tree and posted it on their Facebook page. What a great idea.

The event kicks off on Saturday, December 7th and ends on Saturday, December 21st.

If you don’t participate in decorating a tree, you can always participate by viewing them and voting for your favorite.  A perfect way to get in the spirit, with a family stroll to view the trees.
