Dog Food Sold at Target, Walmart Recalled
The US Food and Drug Administration has announced that a voluntary recall has been issued by a dog food producer.
The brand is sold at Target and Walmart stores nationally.
The recall on the dog food has been issued due to salmonella concerns, as there is a risk of infections in humans, especially children.
According to the FDA, Freshpet has voluntarily recalled a single lot of its "Select Fresh From the Kitchen Home Cooked Chicken Recipe" dog food.
The affected lot of dog food is sold in 4.5 lb bags, with the "sell by" date of 10/29/22. The UPC on the affected packages is 627975011673.
No bags of the affected dog food was shipped to Louisiana, but there may be some at Walmart stores in Alabama and Georgia, and Target stores in these states:
- Connecticut
- Massachusetts
- Maine
- New Hampshire
- New Jersey
- New York
- Pennsylvania
- Rhode Island
- Vermont
- West Virginia
- Puerto Rico
Dogs who are infected with salmonella may show symptoms that include diarrhea, vomiting, fever, loss of appetite, abdominal pain, and lethargy.
Humans can become infected if they do not wash properly after handling food infected with salmonella. Symptoms in humans can include many of the same symptoms experienced by infected dogs: nausea, vomiting, diarrhea or bloody diarrhea, abdominal cramping, and fever.
If you need more information or think you are in possession of one of the affected bags of dog food, you are encouraged to NOT feed it to your pet and call Freshpt at 1-800-285-0563 Mon. through Fri., 9 am–9 pm (EDT) and Sat. through Sun. 9 am--1 pm (EDT) or visit https://freshpet.co/JUNE22
