Don’t Do These Things in a Flood Emergency
As drastic weather looms in the horizon over Acadiana once again, we're passing along a little reminder from The Weather Channel about the worst things you can do during a flood emergency. These people know what they're talking about, so pay attention, and y'all be safe out there!
- Don't drive through flood waters - ever
- Don't use electricity in a flooded home
- Don't get in the flood water, and definitely don't let your kids play in it
- Don't approach or handle wild animals in flood waters
- Don't ever ignore flood warnings
- Don't forget to assemble, and put where you can find, a severe flood water kit in advance
- Don't leave electricity on, or items plugged in if you have to leave your home
- Don't wear the wrong attire. Appropriate clothing in flood waters can be the difference between life and death. Flip flops just aren't going to cut it
- Don't leave furniture or important items outdoors or on the bottom level of your house. Flood waters can sweep away things really quickly, and you might not get a chance to get them back
