In Louisiana, we have a saying that proclaims it is "truly an ill wind that blows no good". And while the majority of us in Louisiana would have a difficult time finding something nice to say about the COVID-19 pandemic, we can at least say this. The need to "stay home" introduced more than a few of us to food delivery services.

For years, my go-to was Waitr. It was a Louisiana-based company and I liked their offerings. Then things got weird with Waitr behind the scenes and now the company is called ASAP and while I haven't used them under the new business model they are certainly one of many choices you can make when it comes to "delivery".

Like many of you at our house when we "splurge" to have food brought in we usually choose DoorDash. That "app" seems to offer more of the choices my family likes so that's why we lean on them. And based on the findings recently released by DoorDash we aren't the only ones that are "ordering out to eat in".

DoorDash recently revealed a little insight into what we, the people, are ordering and eating. What do you think the top food item was that we ordered to be brought in via DoorDash?

Let's go in reverse order, shall we? The tenth most ordered food item was Fried Rice. Cobb Salad was number nine preceded by Traditional Buffalo Wings at eight. By the way, when in Buffalo, if you order "Buffalo Wings" they will toss you out of the bar. In Buffalo, they are just "wings".

The seventh most popular DoorDash order was Chips and Queso. Number six on the list was pepperoni pizza and number five was a spicy chicken sandwich. The number four item from DoorDash was Garlic Naan, it's a kind of bread. Number three was mozzarella sticks and number two was chicken quesadillas.

What Was the Most Ordered Item in 2023 on DoorDash?

If you guessed "french fries" you'd be correct. Now I am not sure if this survey reflects people just straight up ordering fries or if fries "won" because they're included in so many other meals. Regardless, when it comes to DoorDash they are usually coming to your house with fries. Did you know you could get "drunk" off of fries?

What's the Most Ordered Grocery Item on DoorDash?

That would be bananas. That's what people want. Followed by Roma Tomatoes, Strawberries, Cucumbers, Cilantro and Whole Milk.

What's the Most Ordered Booze on DoorDash?

That would be Vodka, the choice of the at-home drinker. Then came the hard seltzers, tequilas, Sauvignon Blanc, and Prosecco rounded out the top five. Oddly enough whiskey was number six and beer was number eight. I think those elixirs were lower on the list because in Louisiana we always stock up on those regardless of pandemic status.

How do you compare with everyone else? Can you find one of your orders in the items we've listed above? I know I can and the fact that I don't have to leave the couch, other than to answer the door is pretty appealing. However, the cost is not. I think I'll just make a peanut butter sandwich and pocket the savings for Louisiana Sports Wagering instead. No wonder we're all so fat and broke, huh?
