Improvements are coming to three major intersections near the new Amazon facility in the Upper Lafayette/Carencro area.

Earlier today, State representative Vincent Pierre and Chairman of the Transportation Committee and Senator Gerald Boudreaux held a public hearing at the Carencro Community Center.

The stakeholder meeting was arranged to discuss traffic related to the massive new Amazon facility being constructed at the old Evangeline Downs property site.

Construction on the Amazon facility isn't even complete and traffic is already pretty wild in the area, so this was definitely a welcome discussion for stakeholders. Many of them shared their concerns during the public gathering.

According to a post on the official City of Carencro Facebook page, DOTD joined local authorities in sharing plans for improvements at I-49 and Gloria Switch (LA 98) and I-49 at Hector Connoly Road (LA 726).

You're going to see new striping, you'll see new signalization, you're going to see some new shoulders. Long-term, we want to double the roundabout at Hector Connoly

DOTD Secretary Dr. Shawn Wilson shared that improvements and widening are also planned for Sonnier Road and the I-49 service road that runs alongside the Amazon facility. He also added that Amazon would be doing "some work themselves" to address access issues.

A detailed slide focused on proposed improvements and additions on Hector Connoly included new u-turns, exit lanes, turning lanes, and other additions that will undoubtedly be welcome news for motorists and residents that frequent the area.

As construction continues on the Amazon Fulfillment Center, road improvements in the area are set to go out for bids this summer with a start date of three months later.
