Iconic New Orleans Pianist, Singer Mac 'Dr. John' Rebennack Dies

It's been a tough week for New Orleans.

Earlier this week, we learned of the passing of New Orleans own culinary legend and activist Leah Chase and now NOLA's heart is breaking once again as they have lost world-renowned pianist and singer Malcolm "Dr. John" Rebennack. An announcement confirming his passing was posted on his official Facebook page.

"Dr. John" is a New Orleans music icon whose health had been declining over the last few years, but not before he lived a life full of extreme highs and some of the lowest of lows. The Louisiana-born musician blended black and white musical influences with a stage presence like no other.

Although Rebennack's past drug addiction was well documented in his career, he still managed to later forge a Top 10 hit with his classic "Right Place, Wrong Time." He was respected by the biggest names in the business, collaborating with the best of the best artists, winning multiple Grammy awards, and was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.

Simply put, there was no one else like Dr. John.
