A Eunice man is facing a life sentence after Acadia Parish sheriff's deputies say he shot at a man in his neighbor's yard.

The incident happened around 9:30 a.m. Friday in the northern part of the parish near the St. Landry Parish line.

According to investigators, Julian Ray Guillory, Jr., saw another man in his neighbor's yard. That's when, according to investigators, Guillory grabbed an assault rifle, pointed it at the man, and fired one round at the victim. According to the victim and other witnesses, there was no conversation between Guillory and the victim, nor did the two exchange any gestures towards each other.

Investigators say the victim was in the neighboring yard to return items to his friend, who lived there.

Guillory is in the Acadia Parish Jail on one count of attempted first-degree murder and one count of illegal discharge of a firearm.
