EUNICE, La. (KMDL-FM) - Law enforcement officials are actively searching for a suspect after a reported attempted kidnapping in Eunice, Louisiana according to police.

Attempted Kidnapping In Eunice, Louisiana

According to KATC, the incident occurred at a home on Rose Street in Eunice, where authorities say a suspect wearing a ski mask attempted to abduct a 4-year-old child from the child’s mother, who had custody at the time.

Police say the suspect is the 4-year-old's father, although a name has yet to be released by authorities.

"Police say the suspect is also wanted on unrelated charges by both Eunice City Court and the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office. During the incident, investigators say the suspect ditched a vehicle west of Opelousas and fled the area on foot."

Suspect on the Run

Police report that the suspect fled the scene after abandoning a vehicle west of Opelousas. He then ran into a nearby wooded area and has not yet been apprehended.

The suspect is also wanted on unrelated charges filed in both Eunice City Court and by the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office.

It is not known whether or not the suspect is armed.

Multiple agencies, including the Opelousas Police Department and the St. Landry Parish Sheriff’s Office, are assisting in the search. Authorities believe the suspect may still be in the wooded area near where the vehicle he was driving was abandoned.

No description or name has yet to be released by the Eunice Police Department, so residents are urged to remain alert and report any suspicious activity to local law enforcement immediately.
