George Strait Achieves 59th No. 1 Hit With ‘Love’s Gonna Make It Alright’
George Strait hasn’t been writing and releasing music since he was born, but if he had, and he had one No.1 hit every year of his life, he would be right where he is now. The 59-year-old country king is celebrating his astounding 59th No. 1 hit with ‘Love’s Gonna Make It Alright’ from his September 2011 Grammy-nominated record, ‘Here for a Good Time.’
Though the hit was one of the few off the record that Strait had no part in writing — it was penned by Chris Stapleton and Al Anderson — the singer says it’s not always about writing the best song.
“You know, I’ve always thought that whether I’m writing or not, I’ve gotta pick the best songs, whether or not they’re mine,” Strait said in a public statement. “I’m not gonna sing ’em just because I wrote ’em. I’ve gotta find the best songs to make the best record I can. I think all of these songs deserve to be on the record.”
‘Love’s Gonna Make It Alright’ just took over the No. 1 spot on the Mediabase radio chart, officially becoming Strait’s 59th chart-topper — quite a reason to celebrate. The title track from the record also hit No. 1 on the Mediabase chart, marking Strait’s first No.1 hit as a songwriter. His record as a whole debuted in the top spot on Billboard’s Country Albums chart, marking his third album in a row to do just that. With this new accomplishment, the country king not only has the satisfaction of amassing as many No. 1 hits as the number of years he’s been alive, but he also now holds the world record for the most No. 1 hits in history.
Another point of pride for Strait this year is his new grandson, who was born on Feb. 2 to his son Bubba and Bubba’s wife Tamara. In an interview just this week, Strait confirmed that his first-ever grandson is named after him – George Harvey Strait III — but would likely go by the name Harvey. With all that’s going on in his life, we know this new grandpa is swelling with pride over his hits, yes, but perhaps way more over the new little one that so recently came into his life.
