Louisiana Business ‘Gulf of America’ Seeing Huge Bump in Sales
(Lafayette, Louisiana) - In 2023, two Lafayette, Louisiana men started a local charter fishing business called Gulf of America Outfitters.
Little did they know that in 2025 President Donald Trump would sign an executive order to rename The Gulf of Mexico to The Gulf of America.
To say that executive order has had a positive impact on the Lafayette, Louisiana business would be an understatement.
Gulf Of America Outfitters Lafayette, Louisiana
Local resident Adam Peterson teamed up with Dr. Joseph Crookshank in 2023 to start Gulf of America Outfitters, a charter fishing business based right here in Lafayette.
According to theadvocate.com, Peterson says the two knew this was the perfect name for the chartering business because it was easy to brand, and easily portrays where they operate.
At the time, they had no idea that in just a couple of years, the name would prove itself to be even better than they could have ever imagined.
In a recent interview with theadvocate.com, Peterson says -
"We've always felt like Gulf of America represents the guys that go out on rigs and work, the conservation agencies down here, trying to make the Gulf better.
We feel a level of ownership for the Gulf. So much of what we do as coastal communities is built around that Gulf."
The Lafayette chartering business had been going well since 2023, but when President Trump signed the executive order to rename The Gulf of Mexico to The Gulf of America, things have quickly accelerated in ways the two local businessmen never saw coming.
Peterson tells theadvocate.com that after the executive was signed, he sold out of his stock of 1,500 Gulf of America Outfitters t-shirts.
We love that the t-shirt operation is run out of the Peterson Family's garage with his kids and parents chipping in to help fill the orders.
If t-shirt orders keep pouring in like they have, the Peterson's are going to need to get a bigger boat.
Speaking of boats, Gulf of America Outfitters' charter fishing business was doing well before the President's declaration, but has there been an uptick in fishing bookings like t-shirt sales?
You know it.
From theadvocate.com -
"Gulf of America Outfitters' slow months usually are January and February, Peterson said.
Last February, Peterson said he booked $33,000 in trips. Bookings exploded to $216,000 this February, he said. That's about a 554% increase year over year."
