Medicare Part B Recipients Are Getting $90 — The White House Says Payments Start This Month
If you have Medicare, you may be getting a check soon from the government. President Trump announced on Friday that his administration will send out roughly $2 billion in payments to more than 20 million seniors to help offset Medicare Part B premium costs.
Where the Money Is Coming From: The Medicare Improvement Fund
In a Friday evening Truth Social post, Trump said the funding will come from the Medicare Improvement Fund, a program created by Congress in 2008 to improve Medicare's fee-for-service system, which he described as a "pointless 'Slush Fund.'"

"We are finally using this Fund, along with my Most Favored Nations Deals, to substantially LOWER costs for our Seniors," he wrote, adding that the move fulfills his pledge to "protect and preserve Medicare and Social Security."
Who Gets the $90 Medicare Payment and When
According to a White House fact sheet, the administration will issue a one-time $90 direct deposit to more than 20 million Medicare Part B enrollees starting this month. The standard Part B premium in 2026 is $202.90 a month, according to Medicare.
The Political Context: Polls, Midterms, and the $5,000 Promise
The announcement comes as Trump faces declining economic approval ratings ahead of the midterm elections, with Republicans working to hold onto their congressional majority. An Associated Press/NORC Research Center poll released Thursday found that 65% of Americans blame Trump's policies for rising living costs, while 73% said they disapprove of his handling of the economy.

In the same post, Trump repeated a pledge he first made at last month's GOP midterm convention, promising $5,000 checks to every U.S. adult if Republicans retain control of both chambers of Congress this fall.
"Because I delivered on this very important issue for the American People, they can also rest assured the highly popular $5,000 Trump Dividend will be distributed to every U.S. Citizen if, and when, the Republicans win the Midterm Elections!" he wrote.
New Week, New Refund Check
And just last week President Trump announced that almost one million Americans in 30 states would be receiving $500 checks. That money was being refunded to compensate what the federal government characterized as an overpayment for services offered via HealthCare.gov.
