Clay Higgins made a name for himself hunting and catching bad guys in St. Landry Parish. His Crime Stoppers videos from St. Landry Parish made him famous throughout Louisiana and across the world. He became known as the "Cajun John Wayne" for his straight tough talk about crime.

That notoriety propelled Higgins, a political unknown, into congress at Louisiana's 3rd District Representative in November's election. Higgins has now been appointed to a position that in the eyes of most would suit him just fine.

With his appointment to the Homeland Security Task Force Higgins will no doubt use his skill and knowledge from his time in law enforcement to help our nation become even more secure against terroristic threats. Higgins told the Louisiana Radio Network that our nation's most valuable resource in protecting our borders are the people.

Deputies along the border, sheriffs have a great deal of knowledge, ranchers, real American citizens, whether they’re a member of law enforcement or not, have damn good ideas on exactly what’s happening and what can be done to stop it.

Higgins made it clear in his comments to reporters that immigrants and visitors who come into the US legally have nothing to worry about. It's those that try and circumvent the law and the proper procedures that will have difficulties.

No one coming to America legally needs to concern themselves with policies and procedures that’ll be put in place.

One of Representative Higgins proposals is to gain a "boots on the ground" perspective of what is actually happening along the U.S. southern border.

We have issues that have concerned Americans, and we should be concerned. We’ve been allowing some bad folks across that border, and it’s time for it to stop.

The congressman suggested in his comments that any and all opinions are welcomed by his office. This is Representative Higgins' first term as a Louisiana Congressman.
