Higher Gas Prices Expected In Time For Holiday Driving Season
I guess we've gotten used to the price of gas being what it's going to be. It's not like we have a huge say so in that discussion anyway. Still, gas prices are a double-edged sword in Louisiana. When the price of gas is up more and more of our citizens are working in the oilfield. When the price of gas is down, so are the job opportunities.
For the most part, gas prices have been fairly stable over the past year. We did see a bit of bump in price when Hurricane Harvey affected so many oil and gas facilities over the summer. But, other than that the price of fuel has been about $2.00 to $2.25 a gallon.
Right now, according to Triple-A, the American Automobile Association, the average price for a gallon of fuel in the state is $2.26 for a gallon of regular. However, several gas stations in the Lafayette area are selling fuel for less than $2.00 a gallon.
Analysts with Triple-A believe prices will remain steady to slightly higher over the next few weeks. October was a busy month where gas consumption is concerned. According to Triple-A the month had the most consumption since 2006.
Louisiana currently has the sixth lowest price for gas in the nation. Still, the price of fuel in our state is about .20 cents higher than it was last year at this time. Don't be surprised if your Thanksgiving and Christmas travel plans will require a little more jingle out of your pocket to pay for fuel.
