Two hunters found human remains on Friday in St. Mary Parish and notified police.

According to the St. Mary Parish Sheriff's Office, the two hunters made the discovery just before noon on Friday. The remains were found in a wooded area north of Franklin.

St. Mary Parish Sheriff Blaise Smith says that deputies and detectives responded to the scene and retrieved the remains.

An autopsy will be conducted to try and determine the manner and cause of death.

No further information was released to the public. Additional information will be released as the investigation progresses.
