(Evangeline Parish) - It's "Spooky Season" across Acadiana, and I recently saw an article on social media highlighting Bayou Chicot State Park, which brought me back to a night when I was leaving the state park in the late 1990s.

I grew up not far from the state park in Evangeline Parish, so I know the area quite welll, and if you've been back there at night, you know just how dark it is.

Years ago, I volunteered my DJ Services at a Police DARE camp at Chicot State Park, and I did. In fact, the late Junkyard Dog was even there; I remember that night vividly.

Now, before I get to my story about leaving the campsite to return home, let me tell you first that I take every ghost story with a grain of salt. Do I believe that spirits may still be with us oon Earth? Sure.

However, some ghost stories that people tell you often seem fabricated, and I approach most with caution. Welll, I have my own ghost story for you, and I know what I saw one late night as I left the park.

I provided music for the kids at this DARE camp one summer night, and I remember leaving the pavilion where the dance was held around 10 pm. It was a warm, foggy night in Evangeline Parish, and I remember telling myself I'd have to drive home slowly.

As I exited the park, I took a dark, narrow road back to the state highway, and it was curvy.

As I approached a curve, I was going really slowly, and something on the side of the road caught my eye. As I got closer, I noticed what I thought was a person in a white gown walking down the road. There are a few homes on this secluded road, but why would anyone be walking down this dark road after 10 pm?

I remember driving past the woman, asking myself that, and later telling a few friends from the area; they told me they'd heard stories about a woman in a white gown walking on the same road. After hearing that, I started to think that maybe it wasn't a woman on that road. Could it have been a ghost lurking in the woods in Evangeline Parish?

Whatever iit may have been, I still think about this woman, or "ghost," as we approach Halloween or anytime I think about Bayou Chicot State Park.

If you've heard similar stories about this woman or ghost near Bayou Chicot State Park, please comment on social media and share your story. Yes, I am intrigued.
